I found larvae, pupae, and adults in brownish tunnels in the interior collar of tissue in basal leaf petioles of the host in mid-August. The body of a typical larva was whitish, the head capsule dome-shaped and light brown with darker mandibles and eyes, and there were six fleshy knobs on the underside of the thorax where legs would be expected. A long curved rostrum and large eyes were visible on the pupa. BugGuide.net contributors used photos to identify the adults to subfamily and then genus (Luk 2019, Belov 2023).
