Record no.:0798
Feeding guild:Miner in leaf blade, lateral leaf vein, midrib, petiole, and/or stem
Taxonomy:Diptera: Agromyzidae: cf. Liriomyza brassicae
Stages observed:trace, larva
Hosts in Alliaria:A. petiolata (garlic mustard)

In late May 2021 I observed a garlic mustard plant with two adjacent leaves being mined by several agromyzid larvae (apparently Liriomyza brassicae, based on Eiseman (2025), p. 1646). Several of the mines appeared to include brief intrusions into major veins and/or midribs, and my observations suggested one mine briefly entered a leaf petiole, but this was inconclusive. In addition, the stem internodes between and above the affected leaves showed patchy whitish discoloration suggestive of stem mining, but I was unable to eliminate the possibility that at least some of the discoloration could be due to the natural bloom on the stem surface. Because of the uncertainties in the observations, this record is listed tentatively.
